Women’s World Cup

I think the Women’s Football World Cup last summer was a big moment. It was fantastic to see the media channels getting behind it and giving it lots of coverage, but what was even better was the reaction to the quality of the football matches and players. So many men told me how much they enjoyed watching and that they didn’t realize women could play like that - they had probably never seen a women’s football match before!

It is so important for women to be shown and seen in this way. It’s not just about football or sport, it’s about showing that women do stuff that isn’t to do with looking beautiful or supporting a man in some way - this is far too often the image we see of women in the media and film. We don’t realize it but it impacts our unconscious views on women and what is possible (and not possible) for them. It affects us all - and our children, who will carry this into the future. So let’s show them how amazing women can be, in football and beyond.
