Supernanny
I have been really enjoying the story about the Silicon Valley CEO who advertised for a nanny - and all the reactions to it. It has rather amused me that people were so outraged that this woman was looking for a ‘supernanny’ who could do all of these things (like managing a household, children, skiing, organizing holidays) when the world is full of women who can do all of these things! And many of them are the wives of lucky men who get to focus on their careers while they are taking care of all of this.
To say that when a man outsources his childcare nobody bats an eyelid rather misses the point though - men don’t usually need to outsource this stuff because in most cases their wife takes care of it (or takes care of the outsourcing of it).
I say good for this woman for seeking the help she needs - who the hell else is going to do it otherwise while she is out there doing her CEO job? If she tries to do everything she will either collapse with exhaustion, or compromise her career.
Some women strike gold and find a supportive, non-emasculated man who is happy to play the role so many wives of successful men do... but they are a very rare breed.
